Today, I'm going to introduce to you guys Soya Sauce Chicken Noodles (in Chinese called You Ji Mian). Having heard much about the Soya Sauce Chicken at Upper Cross Street, we decided to pay it a visit!
There are actually two stalls selling Soya Sauce Chicken along the street, both having similar names. The other did not open when we were there, so we went to the one that was opened. It has an old school setting as you can see below! It has preserved it's original outlook. We heard that the stall has been around for 60 years. Guess it'll be real nostalgic to dine there.
The Soya Sauce Chicken Noodle ($3) came with Chinese parsley. The chicken is pretty well-marinated and for a Chicken Skin lover, I felt the skin wasn't too fatty or oily. Yum. The noodle tasted average. As for the Soya Sauce, we found it quite average. Not as fantastic as we had expected.
Dumpling Soup ($3) is average. Nothing too special. I like that it had water chestnut bits in it. I got to say for dumplings, I really like those which include bits of prawn. For this, it did not have it.
Overall, dining there was rather nostalgic due to its setting. It serves simple unpretentious Soya Sauce Chicken noodle that is priced reasonably. Sauce wise, i would think there is room for improvement.
Tip: Avoid visiting stall too late, it closes pretty early like around 3-4pm.
